Hi~!
I am tired of stupid “mainstream” Fashion. It is EVERYWHERE! all their stupid rules as to what you should wear and how you should wear it…so lame. Well, I personally (probably from my love of anime) fell in love with both Punk fashion AND really Cute (Some people call it “kawaii” which is “cute” in Japanese)type fashion.I couldn’t choose between them, and there is no rule saying I can’t mix the two. So, I am looking for clothes that is “cute and punk” And please, no answers telling me that the two styles don’t mix, or it’s not really punk if it’s cute, because the very DEFINITION of “punk” is pretty much just going against mainstream fashion, and “cute-punk” is DEFINITELY doing just that. he he…I don’t know why I’m, like, trying to prove my case…anywayz, If you’ve ever heard of “skeletanimals”, that is pretty much the kind of stuff I’m looking for. well, not THAT EXACTLY, i’m just using it as an example, but stuff similar to it. And, if you still don’t understand the message I am trying to convey with my abnormally small vocabulary- here are some more examples: Black Combat Boots/Giant head bow… Cute Lollipop T-shirt underneath a Ripped Jacket… ect.

And PLEASE no rude/mean answers. It’s my life, and I can dress how I want. Fashion is a fast forward industry, but continually falls back on archives to draw new inspiration from old styles. It’s as repetitious as the 1-2-3-4 beat of rock and roll including the back beat.

Often it’s easier to gauge changing weather patterns than to predict the rise and fall of fashion clothing. Like an inexperienced sailor navigating un-chartered waters, you’ll be tossed about by the waves and loose any sight of direction.

Many designers, ill equipped have been left high and dry on the high tide line. It’s a ruthless industry and piracy is rife.

But there’s always good weather on the way.

For those who are anecdotal-wise, here is one of particular interest, the outcome of an accident that changed the direction of men’s neckwear.

In the late 1940s, a silversmith named Victor Cedarstaff went riding with friends in the Bradshaw Mountains outside Wickenburg, Arizona. When the wind blew his hat off, Cedarstaff removed the hatband, which had a silver buckle he did not want to lose, and put it around his neck.

When his friends complemented him on the new apparel, Cedarstaff returned home, and wove a leather string. He added silver balls to the ends and ran it through a turquoise buckle.

Cedarstaff later patented the new neckwear, which was called the bolo because it resembled the lengths of rope used by Argentine gauchos to catch game or cattle.

Now mass-produced, bolos are usually made of leather cord, with a silver or turquoise buckle. They are common throughout the west and are often worn for business. In 1971 Arizona legislature named the bolo the official state neckwear.

Twenty years before the advent of the Bolo, another innovation took shape, when a pioneering Paris fashion designer, Jean Patou, invented the designer silk ties. He made silk ties from women’s clothing material including patterns inspired by the latest art movements of the day, Cubism and Art Deco.

To a puritan, known, to a novice fascinating, to an aspiring designer essential knowledge, because fashion is based on historic events that helped shape the world, underpinned by the economic formation of style.

Definitive styles, without dropping names, are pretty thin on the ground. The dark suit is one that has been around for centuries and since the 20’s has changed little other than a few cosmetic alterations. Punk, as defined by Vivienne Westwood is in constant pursuit of perfection and still a major influential concept 30 years after inception.

Perpetuating her own unique style, Vivienne Westwood marks a new creative direction for men’s fashion accessories and jewellery design. Far removed from her early days of Punk; a comprehensive selection from her current collections of finely crafted cufflinks pendants for men and silk ties.

Finally another anecdote to fall back on: 1952: Douglas Fairbanks Jr declares ‘Savile Row has recaptured the tailoring supremacy of the world’. Fairbanks Jr is one of the 20th century heroes of Savile Row. As far back as 1937, it is recorded in Anderson & Sheppard’s ledgers that he recommended Marlene Dietrich to the firm when she was in England to make Russian revolution epic Knight Without Armour.

Have things really changed that much?

Not everyone is going to dress in a suit and tie for work, and if you are not in that group, consider punk clothing to set your mood for fun all day and all night long. Since Shoichi Aoki’s “Fruits” hit mainstream bookshelves in 2001, the exciting hotchpotch of Japanese fashion subcultures has inspired everyone from toddlers to professionals. The JET (Japanese English Teacher) scheme has given a lucky few firsthand experience of the crazy mishmash that is the Japanese clothing and accessory market (so envied by their peers upon returning home with a container full of authentic Harajuku-wear!)

Japanese fashion is all about transient statements. A fifteen-year-old girl who opts for “Futuristic Maid” this weekend isn’t tied down by her fashion statement. Next weekend it could be “Old Skool Punk”, the one after perhaps “Urban Gangsta” The point as far as Japanese kids are concerned is simple. In a country famed for its stringent social norms, generational expectations and strict career aspirations, the teenage to university years are a valuable time during which to let loose, experiment and go for fashion gold 100%!

One valuable lesson those outside the relatively inaccessible Japanese street fashion market can take away is to add a little colour to your day. Remember the 80′s? Well luminous colours are still the colour palette of choice for many Japanese urban fashion artists!

A stealthy way to introduce a little luminosity into a daily wardrobe is to accessorise. A little research turned up Nixon watches as one of the brightest, most stylish, and well-made subtle accessories available outside Japan. Just to clarify, those fingerless gloves were a heavy metal accessory, not punk rock. Just let them rest unless you’re going for some sort of retro “lame” look…

As most music lovers say, music is a lifestyle, regardless of the genre.  That’s particularly the reason why we see people dressed in graphic shirts with their favorite bands and artists, sporting outfits and accessories that best describe the music that they listen to.
